Goodbeitao's store used to be a two-story old house. They completely renovated it, blending retro and trendy styles to create their flagship store. It's right next to the Huashan Creative Park, so the decor also has a bit of an artsy, indie vibe.
Goodbeitao is only about 450 meters from Shandao Temple MRT Station, so it's very close—just a 6-minute walk. Right next to it is the famous Fuhang Soy Milk.
There aren't many seats on the first floor; most of the seating is on the second floor.
The second floor has a vintage vibe and a real sense of history. It features the original wooden triangular roof and four spacious sofa seats. If you have a specific seat in mind, be sure to make a reservation in advance.
The Goodbeitao flagship store is different from the Guting store. The flagship covers up to 70 pings, can seat more guests, and has an upgraded menu with more options.
Through the window, you can see many chefs in the kitchen showcasing their skills.
The dining environment here is really comfortable, with a charming antique vibe.
There's a painting by Yoshitomo Nara hanging on the wall, giving off a Japanese vibe. Maybe the owner wants to attract more Japanese tourists.
This staircase makes it feel like this place used to be an antique shop.
I've sat down, and the seat is really spacious. We're sitting on a sofa chair.
Here's the dipping sauce for Xiaolongbao: soy sauce and vinegar.
The meal comes with tea, which doesn't have a strong flavor. It pairs well with the other dishes and balances out the taste.
Original soup dumplings (原味小籠湯包)
The original flavor soup dumplings are filled with plenty broth, and the dumplings themselves are really big. The price is also very affordable.
The inside of a soup dumpling is bursting with juicy broth. When you take a bite, the soup spills out. The skin of the Xiaolongbao is a bit thicker, so you get a rich, flavorful broth with every bite. It's a really high-quality soup dumpling.
Truffle Soup Dumplings (松露小籠湯包)
This dish costs 230 TWD, which is a bit pricey, but once you take a bite, you're greeted with a strong truffle aroma. The pork filling is seasoned with truffle salt and truffle sauce, making every bite feel quite luxurious and indulgent.
The soup dumpling isn't just topped with truffle, it's also packed with truffle inside. It's got lots of flavorful soup too. I give this truffle soup dumpling a perfect score – it's absolutely delicious!
Peking Pork Chops (京都排骨)
Among all the dishes, I think Kyoto Pork Chops was the one I regretted ordering the most. The other dishes had really good textures, but this pork chop was a bit too tough to eat. The seasoning was still great though.
Ribs have a crispy outer skin. Some ribs are boneless, while others have bones. Right now, I feel like the ribs with bones are actually more tender.
Wontons In Chili Oil (紅油抄手)
These chili oil wontons are so delicious, definitely one of the signature dishes. The sauce isn't very spicy, but they add more vinegar, giving it a nice tang that pairs perfectly with rice. Inside, they're packed with filling and shrimp.
The sauce for the Wontons In Chili Oil is perfectly balanced. It has just the right amount of sourness, saltiness, and spiciness. Every flavor is spot on, making the dish really delicious overall.
They're so delicious that I couldn't stop eating them one after another, and before I knew it, the plate was all gone.
Beitou Fried Rice (北饕炒飯)
The fried rice has a pretty standard flavor, quite light and not very greasy. It's not super fragrant, but it's fresh and pretty easy to enjoy, making it a good match with other dishes.
The portion size is generous, with plenty of shrimp on top. The rice is cooked through, so it's not hard to eat. I recommend ordering this as a main dish.
Kung Pao Preserved Eggs with Potstickers (宮保皮蛋煎餃)
These potstickers taste amazing! You can really smell the preserved eggs, and there's a little bit of spice, but it's not too hot. They're perfect for pairing with rice.
Inside, you can find plenty of meat filling, preserved eggs, and shrimp. The potstickers have a super crispy edge, and when dipped in soya sauce, the flavor is amazing. I highly recommend it!
Steamed Flounder (清蒸比目魚)
This flounder tastes pretty good. The steamed flavor is very fresh, and you can catch a hint of soy sauce. However, the soy sauce seems a bit too oily.
Pineapple Shrimp Balls (鳳梨蝦球)
This Pineapple Shrimp Ball is a must-try dish. The outer layer of the shrimp balls is crispy and golden brown. It's topped with mayonnaise and seaweed powder. Every bite is soft, not tough, and not greasy at all—really refreshing. I give this Pineapple Shrimp Ball a perfect score.
The pineapple shrimp balls are really big, and the shrimp inside are also really crispy.
Hot And Sour Soup (酸辣湯)
The Hot and Sour Soup tastes really good, with a slight tang and spiciness. It's very appetizing and perfect to go with rice. Luckily, we ordered the small bowl for 80 TWD, and that amount was just right for us to enjoy.
If you order the 300-yuan large bowl, there'd probably need to be more than six people to finish it.
I thought this place would be really expensive, but after seeing the bill, it's actually pretty reasonable. We ate until we were full, and it cost less than 600 per person on average, so it's perfect for bringing friends for a meal.
Goodbeitao Reviews
Good Points: The signature Truffle XiaoLongBao is absolutely delicious. I've never had a soup dumpling with such a strong truffle flavor before. All the other dishes are also really good, almost everything is spot-on. The Wontons in Chili Oil are perfectly seasoned, the Pineapple Shrimp Balls are deep-fried to a golden crisp with great texture, and the Egg Omelette with Preserved Eggs is full of rich egg and preserved egg flavor. I highly recommend this place—you definitely should come and try it, and bring your friends along too!
Bad Points: The air conditioning on the second floor could be a bit stronger, so the air feels fresher. Otherwise, it tends to get a little stuffy up there. Also, the Peking Pork Chops are a bit tough to eat. Other than that, there are no other issues.
