Wangji Fucheng Zongzi was established in 1992, so it's been over 30 years now. It's a well-known local shop in Taipei. When people see the name with "Fucheng," they often think it's from Tainan, but that's not the case.
Wangji Fucheng Zongzi is an authentic, long-established shop founded in Taipei. The founder is from the south and wanted to bring the most traditional, bold-flavored sticky rice dumplings from the south to Taipei, serving those in the north who miss their hometown flavors.
Wangji Fucheng Zongzi is located on Bade Road. The original store has expanded to three branches, with the other two being Sanmin Branch and Xining Branch. Parking is very easy—you can park right across at the Cooperative Bank Headquarters Building, which has plenty of parking spaces.
Recently, Wangji Fucheng Zongzi's business has improved several times over. The reason is the support from AI pioneer Jensen Huang. Jensen Huang personally visited the shop and bought a few rice dumplings. After the news coverage, this old shop started to get long lines again.
The ordering process is very traditional. There's no menu inside the shop, so you just order verbally at the counter with the staff.
The menu at Wangji Fucheng Zongzi is very simple. It includes sticky rice dumplings, vegetable rice dumplings, and red bean paste rice dumplings. For soups, there's radish fish ball soup. They also serve savory rice pudding and Misua noodles with pork intestines.
Walking into the store, you can really feel the strong Old-Fashioned Flavor. The place has a traditional vibe, with red wooden tables and chairs that give off a classic Southern restaurant feel.
There's an oil painting hanging on the wall, giving a vintage and cozy feel. The atmosphere inside the shop is really warm and inviting.
The restaurant has lots of seats and turns over tables really quickly. Even if there's a line, you won't have to wait long.
Even though it's an old shop, the dining environment has always been well-maintained. The tables and chairs are still new, and the place is clean. The coolest part is the air conditioning – it's kept very chill, especially in summer, making it really comfortable to dine inside.
Wangji Fucheng Zongzi is open very long hours, from 10 in the morning all the way until 11 at night. They're open every day, with no breaks.
The sauce station offers peanut powder, minced garlic, chili sauce, black vinegar, and pepper.
Sticky Rice Dumpling (肉粽)
This is the shop's signature display. It's a classic southern-style sticky rice dumpling, with the rice turning a brownish color and some soy sauce paste underneath. Inside, it's packed with ingredients—several pieces of braised pork belly, along with a chestnut, sliced shiitake mushrooms, peanuts, and a salted egg yolk. The seasoning of the dumpling is fairly light, and the soy sauce paste isn't too strong, so you can really taste the original flavors of the rice dumpling.
Peanut Powder and Sweet Chili Sauce (花生粉和甜辣醬)
The Sweet Chili Sauce at Wangji Fucheng Zongzi isn't spicy at all, so even those who are sensitive to spice can add a little for extra flavor while enjoying the sticky rice dumpling.
Misua Noodles With Pork Intestines (大腸麵線)
Thin noodles are also one of Wangji Fucheng Zongzi's popular dishes. It comes with pork intestine and lean pork inside, and the broth is light and clear. It's refreshing and not greasy to eat.
The portion of the thin noodles is quite big, and the broth has a subtle bonito flakes aroma. If you find the flavor too mild, you can add some black vinegar yourself.
The pork intestine has a very soft and tender texture, and it's super fresh. The portion of meat is also generous, so you'll feel really full after eating.
Radish Fish Ball Soup (蘿蔔魚丸湯)
It's also a must-try at Wangji Fucheng Zongzi. The raddish pieces are big and generously given, and they give two large fish balls that are really hearty and substantial to eat.
The broth tastes very clean and sweet, with a strong carrot flavor. There's a lot of celery added, making it really fragrant and delicious.
The fish balls have a really bouncy and chewy texture. After eating these two, I felt super full. As for the flavor, I think it's a bit on the mild side. The best part is, you can get free refills of soup, which is awesome.
Savory Rice Pudding (碗粿)
The texture of the Savory Rice Pudding is really smooth and creamy, with a nice rice flavor. Inside, there's egg yolk and pork, so the filling is quite hearty and satisfying.
The sauce was added generously, but the flavor wasn't overpowering at all. It tasted really good together. If someone feels it's not enough, they can add some minced garlic.
Red Bean Paste Rice Dumpling (豆沙粽)
Red bean paste rice dumplings are not vegetarian because they contain pork fat. I think it's the tastiest dish among all. The sticky rice outside is very soft and tender, and it doesn't stick to your teeth. The filling of red bean paste is generous, and it melts in your mouth with each bite. Really delicious!
You can still have them as desserts after finishing your meal. Every time we come, we always take a few to go and enjoy later.
Wangji Fucheng Zongzi Reviews
Good Points: Wangji Fucheng Zongzi has a lot of different dishes to choose from. If you're with a big group, everyone can share and try a bit of everything, making it a very generous and satisfying meal.
Bad Points: If I had to mention a downside, it's that every dish at Wangji Fucheng Zongzi tastes pretty mild. The flavors are very comfortable and not greasy, but there's no memorable or standout taste.
